Hey Doc,
I just wanted to thank you and your staff for the "AWESOME" experience you gave to me and my family. We never thought that our trip to the North Carolina mountains would be so fun and profitable. After finding and learning about the gems at your mine, we got you to cut a lot of them into beautiful jewels for us. The last batch was worth over $4000! Needless to say, we all can't wait for our next vacation to Blowing Rock/Boone and Doc's Gem Mine! It's been over two weeks since our trip and we're all still talking about rocks & gems. I just found out that my stepson Shawn ordered a batch of ORE-TO-GO from y'all, so it won't be long before we're digging in the dirt again. (HE'S HOOKED ON ROCKS!) I'd also like to mention that we were there when "KNOT HEAD" the dinosaur arrived at the mine. It was the first time any of us had seen a "real" dinosaur skeleton up close and personal. My grandson Alex was truly excited with the whole experience, and still talks about "Doc" as if he lives just down the street. You made my family feel like your family, and for that, we'll never forget you. Thank you!

Just wanted to tell you what a great time we had gem hunting last month. Three generations had something we could do together on a cold, wet day. We appreciated all your help identifying the gems as well as giving us a great geology lesson. We bought a $50 dollar bucket and were able to get 10 stones cut by you in just 24 hour! We found garnet, emerald, peridot, smoky quartz, white quartz, amethyst, citrine, ruby and star ruby. The pendants that you set turned out great. Enclosed is a picture of the 9 carat star ruby I had set in a gold setting with an accent diamond. Everyone loves the pendant! We hope to get back to Boone sometime so we can try again. Hey Doc, just wanted to write you this email and ay thank you for a wonderful experience mining....this was the first time for my son and he absolutly had a wonderful time and just so you know he was actually paying attention whe you were explaining the stones, I was amazed when we got home and he was showing my mother the stones that he found and was naming them...also I wanted to thank you for making up for the "other gem mining person" that told me to get a book and look it up...we are planing another trip next year and you will be the ONLY mine we will visit...Again thank you and thanks for taking time with my son William....
Tammy from Florida
Doc, thanks so much for the fast turn-around on my "ruby". I was so excited to know that it was 1 1/2 carats. I will probably have it appraised so will let you know what my fine turns out to be. I look forward to visiting again. The experience was so much fun and my whole family enjoyed the panning and history lesson. Thanks again. Sandra Bradley, Huntersville, NC
We discovered Doc early last year and have been back to visit about twenty times since then. We love how when you walk in everyone greets you like family that they haven't seen in forever. We always have a blast every time we're there and are already planning another trip again in two weeks. See you then Doc.

We enjoyed visiting your business with our daughter and friends last week (we are all from Florida and spent a lot of time there on Friday, then my wife and daughter and I came back Saturday). If you're interested, below is the link to what I wrote about the experience on my travel blog. It's not a big blog, but it's what I like to do in my spare time.
John Stanton This blog was awesome!!! Thanks
WOW!!! We had a great time!!! My two girls, wife, and I found over $2000.00 of gems playing in warm water in your indoor flume!!! It was 29 degrees outside! The two highlights of our trip included finding a 2 POUND ROSE QUARTZ and an EMERALD ORE the size of a baseball. The educational experience and personal attention was exceptional... thanks Mike and Doc!!! We were excited that you cut our gems and had them ready within 24 hours. I have included 2 photos for everyone's enjoyment. Check out the endless possibilities that you can find at DOC'S GEM MINE!!! You will find our 2lb. Rose Quartz in the center of the plate with our other mining discoveries, and a photo of our cut stones that Doc fashioned for us (including the current book value). CHECK OUT THE EMERALD...IT'S 63 CARROTS!!! We will be back as soon as we can. Remember big rocks don't fit in small buckets!!!

New Year's Eve and Day (Yes, we came back again and loved it)!!!
A friend told me about her gem mining experience before I went to do it and it just sounded lame to me. "Sitting around looking through a bunch of rocks?" I thought to myself. I can think of much better ways to spend my time. I was wrong. It isn't lame at all. It is fun to discover what is hidden in the bucket of dirt you get. Sitting at the trough and watching the water reveal the rough, colorful gem stones is addictive. Doc is friendly, knowledgeable and spends time with you teaching you about each type of stone (how it was made, where it comes from, etc) where as another gem mining business I went to previously wasn't nearly as friendly and didn't offer ANY information. Doc's Rocks is the place to go. I will be back the next time I visit North Carolina.

Doc! Such a fantastic experience!
First of all, I wanted to thank you and your staff for an incredible experience last month! My 6 year old son Max had never been to a gem mine before, and the experience could not have been better! I personally have been to many "similar" places across several states, but none can compare to yours. It was so refreshing to have everything explained to us about the formation of the rocks of the area, in addition to basic identification. Thanks also for the fantastic job of cutting our quartz.
My father was also quite impressed with you, as he spoke to you about various rock topics as he picked up 2 shovels worth of ore to deliver to my son when they returned from their extended stay in NC...
Speaking of said purchase... would it be possible to get identification via email of a few rocks from those shovels? It will be another 2 years before we are back in NC!!!! Will ABSOLUTELY be planning a rock hound tour then!

Hi Doc,
Had a great time last weekend. I am so glad we found you again at your new location. My friends here in Winston Salem are glad also. I have shown my gems at work and given directions to where you are. Be looking for the new customers this summer. I ended up with over 50 stones last weekend from my $30 bucket! You will be busy making beautiful jewelry for me and for Christmas presents the rest of the year.
For anyone that reads this comment you can fully trust Doc and his employees with your gems. He does wonderful work and will have your jewelry in record time in your mailbox if you can't wait for them while in Boone.
Regards,
Terresa Roberts
Doc,
Thank you so much for the knowledge that you passed on to Matt and me. The experience was great! You have to be the best gem mine around. Look forward to a Rock Hound tour with you next year. We are going to try and bring a group this time. You are more than a gem mine. You are more like a hands on museum and school. It is obvious that you love what you do. Tell Trina thanks for making sure we didn't throw away those good rubies!

Hey Doc & Trina , Thanks for making my Daughter and Son in Laws visit a great one. You have started a new group of Rock hounds here in Florida. We are looking forward to our trip in May. Again, thanks for everything.
Michael T. Chesser from Florida
Thank you so much for letting me and Kayla tag along on your rock hunting trip at the blast site. We had a lot of fun and can't wait to get back up to Boone soon. I attached a picture of me, my brother-in-law Todd, and my father-in-law Mike mining some of the ore we brought back with us on our dining room table. We would all like to thank you for turning us into a bunch of addicts! Seriously though, we really enjoyed our time learning all about the gems and minerals. This will definitely be a big part of our lives from now on.

Doc, thank you so much for your hospitality, your honesty and intelligence in the field made our visit to your gem mine an awesome experience. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Doc, Me and the boys were just passing threw and wasting time and stumbled across your store. You and your staff was very knowledgeable and very polite. To make a long story short, we ended up buying 3 buckets by the time it was all said and done and all of us had a stone cut. Thanks for a fun time and a great learning opportunity. cant wait to see how our gems turned out.. Thanks Mike Will and BrandonMichael Marsh from Appalachian State Football
Hey Doc, Trina and Tanion, We came to your mine in July of 2008 and had such a great time. We wanted to thank you for the experience and tell you how much we enjoyed our visit to Boone and Blowing Rock. We always try to plan our trips to your area around something cool. Last year we planed it around Grandfather Mountain and Linville Caverns. We discovered your place by accident, and I must say that you’re the best discovery that we have ever made. We are planning to come back to your area again this coming May. This year’s trip is going to be planned entirely around Doc’s Rocks Gem Mine.Mike and Miranda from Salt Lake City, UT
Doc Rocks ! Just wanted to say how much we enjoyed the Gem mining. The 5 Carat Ruby you cut for us was awesome ! You guys will definitely be apart of our yearly trip to Boone !Mike & Hope Cesser from Jacksonville, Fl
Just wanted to let everyone know that I found a ruby at Doc's Rocks Gem Mine that cut out to 8.5 carats. Doc told me that I should get it appraised because he doesn't usually see them cut out that big. Honestly, at first I thought that he was just hyping it up to make me proud of my finding. However, when I got home I took Doc's advice and had my ruby appraised by a well known jeweler in my community. It appraised for $10,000. To top that off, the jeweler that did the appraisal offered to buy it right then and there for $7,000. I'm happy to say that I am now $7,000 richer thanks to Doc, and it all started with a small bucket of dirt. My family and I are already planning another trip up next month to do it again.

Doc's Rocks is my favorite place to go mining. Every time I visit, I find something new and exciting. I'm looking forward to going on a rock hound tour with Doc this summer. Thank you Doc for providing such a cool place to visit.

i love the fact that you guys don't salt your buckets. I've been to alot of other gem mines where you pay a fortune for a bucket of white gravel or sand and find a few crappy stones that they stuck in there for you, most of which is not even worth keeping in your fish tank. at your place, we bought a ten dollar bucket (1 shovel full) and fill up a full size sandwich bag with some amazing finds. needless to say, we will be back to see you guys again soon to be getting our stones cut. Thanks for an amazing experience.
Donna and Phil from Atlanta GA
I want you to know that my wife and I visited your Gem Mine between Christmas and New Years day for the first time. We made the same trip to NC last year and went gem mining at another place near Boone. There is certainly a marked difference in the quality of personal attention that we received at Doc’s Rocks as compared to the service at the other mine. I was also pleased to find out that your mine ore is definitely from mines that are native to North Carolina. I’ve been wondering why I found Mexican Opals in the ore from the other place and now I know! My wife loves the beautiful gems that you cut from the gemstones we found. You can also expect to receive a mail order from us soon requesting you to facet some more of the gemstones that we found. Please accept our sincere thanks to you and your staff for running a first class gem business.
Reid and Robin from Columbus, Georgia.
Just wanted to write a quick note to let you know how much fun we had
gem mining with you! I have to admit, my parents had to coerce us into
gem mining and I can now say we are hooked. We found so many beautiful
stones and appreciate the time you took to sit down with us and review
our findings. We learned a ton about different gems and rocks from you
and your wonderful staff. We love all our stones and your lightening
fast turn around time cutting them for us! We will definitely tell
everyone we know about Doc's Rocks! Hope to see you again soon.
Wren and Dan Dickens From Hamilton, GA
Merry Christmas to Doc's Rocks. We visited you guys last month and had a blast, and just wanted to let you know that we are hooked on gem mining after visiting your place. We never knew that playing in the dirt could be so much fun. Thanks for such a good time.
Sally McNeil from South Carolina
Hey Doc, just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our visit. We are avid gem miners and focus our vacations on cool places to go just to go mining. In all of our years mining, we have never visited another mine where they actually sit down with you one on one and identify your stones. Your staff also went one step further then that and gave an awesome lesson on how the stones formed and why North Carolina is such a cool place geologically speaking. I'm so glad we discovered you. Thank you so much, See you guys in April.
Susan Mullins from Knoxville TN
Hey Doc, My name is Jesse Parker (the honeymooner). I just wanted to say that i think you guys are great. Your staff is excellent and we had a lot of fun just learning about the gems and the history of North Carolina mines. We can't wait to bring the entire family. We are planning to come back in a couple months. See you guys soon.
Jesse Parker from Hickory NC
We had our best vacation yet, thanks to doc. he and his staff were really friendly. Their knowledge about geology and gemstones was awesome. We learned so much in just one visit. Love ya Doc and we'll see you again next summer!
Jill Hanson from Canada
Doc "ROCKS" should be the name of this place, because it truly does rock. What impressed me the most was how good doc and his staff were with my children and all of the kids there that day. They are passionate about teaching kids about their environment and have found a unique way to do this where the kids don't even realize that they are learning anything, they just think that they are having fun. It's awesome... I can't wait to visit again next summer William from Florida
I had such a good time at your mine. Thank you doc for teaching me so much about rocks
